Coral Bay is a small settlement beside Bill’s Bay, not a spread-out resort town. Most bookable accommodation sits within walking distance of the main beach, but inventory is limited. The real choice is between holiday-park sites, cabins or villas in the settlement, a separate Exmouth base, and legal remote stays farther along Ningaloo Coast.

Quick decision

  • Stay in Coral Bay: when Bill’s Bay, local reef tours and a compact walkable base are the priority.
  • Stay in Exmouth: when airport access, Cape Range National Park and a wider choice of services matter more.
  • Choose a holiday park: when a cabin, powered site or family setup fits the trip.
  • Choose a remote stay: only after checking road access, self-sufficiency and the current DBCA alert.

Which base suits your trip?

Families

A cabin or villa in the settlement keeps Bill’s Bay and basic services close. Check the real sleeping layout and minimum-stay rules.

Reef tours

Confirm the operator departs from Coral Bay before booking. Exmouth departures are not interchangeable.

No-car visitors

Coral Bay itself is compact, but airport transfer and tour collection need advance confirmation.

Camping

Use a caravan park in town or a designated, open remote campground. Beach and dune camping around Coral Bay is not allowed.

Transport and settlement limits

The Ningaloo Visitor Centre describes Coral Bay as about 90 minutes by road from Learmonth Airport. Book the transfer before the room because services may not meet every flight.

Food, fuel and other supplies exist in the settlement, but choice is smaller than Exmouth. Check whether your accommodation provides the kitchen, refrigeration, water and parking your group needs.

DBCA’s Ningaloo Coast visitor guidance states that there is no free or coastal camping in the Coral Bay area and camping is not permitted on beaches or dunes. Use a caravan park or a designated campground.

Remote campground access and availability changed after cyclone damage in 2026. Check DBCA Park Alerts and the individual campground page on the day you finalise the route.

Questions not covered above

Is RAC Ningaloo Reef Resort currently bookable?

At the 13 August 2026 check, RAC still described the resort as closed for redevelopment and had not published a booking-open date. Check the official resort page before planning around it.

Can I camp on beaches or dunes near Coral Bay?

No. DBCA guidance states there is no free or coastal camping in the Coral Bay area and no designated beach camping around the settlement.

When is Exmouth a better base?

Choose Exmouth for more services, Learmonth Airport logistics and Cape Range National Park. Do not treat it as a convenient daily substitute for Coral Bay.

Can I manage Coral Bay without a car?

The settlement itself is walkable, but airport transfers must be arranged and a vehicle is useful for supplies and the wider coast.
